The People.

Gordon, Judith and Julian are committed to ensuring the vineyard continues to produce premium fruit for the production of quality wine under the She Oak Hill label. They are supported in this goal by their partners Helen, whose catering is renowned, Frank - official photographer and chronicler, and Jane who manages sales and marketing. The third generation of the family keenly participates in harvest activities, IT development and advising on legal matters.

The fourth generation, in their enthusiasm for ‘driving’ the original grey Fergie and making mud pies in the vegetable garden, demonstrate an inherent love of the Heathcote soil and potential as future contributors.

The vines are expertly cane pruned by Laurie Conforti who learned his viticulture skills in the small northern Italian village of Dubino. He joined other members of his family in Heathcote on his arrival in Australia in 1950 at the age of 22. Laurie worked for the Forestry Department until the fledgling wine industry in Heathcote recognized his talents. He was employed by Gordon senior in 1976, and has been of invaluable assistance to both generations of the Leckie family in managing the vineyard since that time.

At harvest time the grapes are hand picked by the family, a loyal group of friends of She Oak Hill and local support from the Heathcote community, some of whom have been participating in the She Oak Hill Harvest since the first vintage. Their experience and understanding of the vineyard’s emphasis on quality fruit ensures the grapes are in peak condition for delivery to the winery.

The annual Chardonnay Pickers Picnic is a highlight of the She Oak Hill vineyard year when family and friends gather to celebrate the vintage and conclusion of the vineyard’s growing season. Post harvest euphoria, culinary delights, and She- Oak Hill wine make these events truly memorable occasions..
