"For those with long memories the names Gordon Leckie, She-Oak vineyard and Heathcote will ring bells. A pioneer of Heathcote Shiraz with neighbours Jasper Hill and Mount Ida vineyards, Leckie’s She-Oak shiraz was just getting noticed but slipped off the wine map. After
Gordon senior’s death in the ‘90's, Penfolds continued to take the grapes, while in 1996 the Leckie family planted a new two-hectare shiraz and chardonnay vineyard adjoining the original vines. She-Oak Hill is also the name of the label they have just launched, headed by a pretty smart young 2001 shiraz. Made by John Ellis, the wine is set to take up where Leckie’s shiraz left off. It’s grown in the same ancient Cambrian soils as neighbouring Emily’s Paddock and does the Leckie name proud."
