More Gold at the Inaugural Heathcote Wine Show

Posted by Jane Leckie. Filed under Awards, Events

At a glittering dinner of local produce the awards for the Inaugural Heathcote Wine Show were announced.  To our delight all 4 wines we entered received medals and the recently bottled 2012 Estate Shiraz was our highlight, receiving a Gold Medal in the Young Shiraz Class. With a score of 55.5 /60 and the judges commenting ‘rich, spicy, gorgeous’  we could not have been happier. Well deserved congratulations also to our talented wine maker Mark Hunter who took home the Grand Terroir Trophy for  outstanding success across a range of vintages.  An exciting start to a tradition of Heathcote Wine Shows we hope.

The 2012 Shiraz is lovely – I’ve had 2 bottles now so have formed an opinion. The very first mouthful took me by surprise – but lots of wines do that – it seemed very different at first – but now I really like it. I suspect it will have quite a few years available to it – but that’s a layman’s view! A big wine, full of color and depth of flavor – with big legs. My kind of drink.

Thanks Richard, so glad you are enjoying it. It is different to your previous favorite, the 2007 but that is a reflection of the very different growing season.
